Melania Trump was among those who declined to wish her husband, the US president, a happy birthday this weekend despite commemorating the US military’s birthday on the same day.
Ms Trump was also not seen alongside Donald Trump as he returned to Washington DC alongside daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, had had earlier tweeted a birthday tribute and wrote, “Happy Birthday @realdonaldtrump! I love you!”
The three would have celebrated the president’s ceremony 74th birthday playing golf in New Jersey on Sunday, which also marked the 245th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. military.
Ms Trump, however, appeared to run away from her husband on social media and shared a US Army Post who said, “Today we recognize 245 years of bravery, commitment, competence and responding to the call to serve. We are the US military. “
The president, who later retweeted the same post from the US military, instead shared another birthday post in which he and Ms Trump were dancing together.
Thousands of people used Sunday to taunt the president, with posts on Twitter praising the 44th US president, Barack Obama, and condemning Mr. Trump.
“We love, appreciate and miss the smartest, most articulate, and handsome president of the United States of America. May God bless you and the family ”, wrote a user above a video showing Mr. Obama.
Phrases like #ObamaApprershipDay and #AllBirthdaysMatter were among those used to troll Mr. Trump throughout the day.
The slogan “All Birthdays Matter” in particular called on Trump supporters who used the term “All Lives Matter” to reject the Black Lives Matter movement amid nationwide protests against systemic racism and police violence.
One person wrote: “Is it Trump’s birthday? Ridiculous. All birthdays count !! I’m tired of hearing that “happy birthday Donald Trump” b ****** t! “
Ms Trump’s absence from public celebrations for the president’s birthday came as an author suggested she renegotiated her first names agreement after the president’s election victory in 2016.
The first lady’s office has rejected claims in Mary Jordan’s new book, titled ‘The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump’.
According to reports, the book contains claims that Ms Trump has sought to strengthen her financial deal with her husband and secure pledges regarding the inheritance of their son, Barron.
